Buterin warns of quantum threat as he urges Ethereum to work without developers
Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin proposed a “walkaway test” to assess whether Ethereum can survive without active involvement from core developers and still remain safe and functional. He said Ethereum should not be a constantly maintained service but a robust tool capable of “ossification.” Buterin listed conditions for that goal, highlighting full quantum resistance. He cited slow cryptography transitions and “harvest now, decrypt later” risks, and pointed to account abstraction and EIP-4337 adoption.
