Webzen bets on Dragon Sword to cut reliance on MU IP

Webzen will release its new game Dragon Sword on Jan. 21, putting an early-year bet on whether it can lessen dependence on its MU intellectual property and reverse weak performance. FnGuide forecasts 2025 revenue of 170.8 billion won and operating profit of 29.8 billion won, down 20.4 percent and 45.3 percent. Webzen is increasing equity investments in developers while founder Kim Byung-kwan returns as an internal director after nine years.

FTC fines Webzen 1.58 billion won for misleading probability items

The Fair Trade Commission imposed a 1.58 billion won fine on Webzen for giving false information about drop rates in Mu Archangel and hiding a system that made rare items unobtainable until users made large numbers of purchases. The regulator said Webzen misled players and provided insufficient compensation to affected users. Webzen apologised and said it will continue refund processing and work on preventive measures.
