China\'s auto industry bets on humanoid robots as next growth engine, following Tesla
Chinese automakers are stepping up investment in humanoid robots as a next-generation profit business, seeking new revenue as electric-vehicle profitability declines. Xpeng\'s robotics unit raised more than $900 million at a valuation above $6.3 billion, with investors including IDG Capital, Gaorong Ventures, Tencent and Alibaba. Analysts say China has an edge in manufacturing and supply chains, but AI will determine competitiveness against Tesla. Global automakers are also expanding robot efforts.

Rivian CEO to lay out strategy beyond EVs with robots and autonomous driving
Rivian is seeking to expand into the mass market by leading with the launch of its mid-priced electric SUV, the R2, while also widening its business into autonomous driving, charging infrastructure and humanoid robots. TechCrunch reported that CEO RJ Scaringe will explain the rationale and manufacturing lessons behind the strategy at Disrupt 2026 in San Francisco in October. Rivian has also set a Level 4 autonomous-driving roadmap and is building a charging network in the United States.

Autonomous Manufacturing AI World Show opens in Seoul
The 2026 Autonomous Manufacturing AI World Show (AMWS 2026) opened on April 27 at the COEX Grand Ballroom in Seoul. Organisers said the event focuses on shifting beyond AI innovation in manufacturing to a stage of “actionable autonomous manufacturing,” where AI judges processes and directly controls robots and equipment. The programme includes keynote talks on policy, technology and application strategies, plus an exhibition of manufacturing AI, robots, digital twins and AI vision.
