Microsoft unveils third-generation AI chip Maia 300, expands as Nvidia alternative
Microsoft will expand its use of in-house AI chips instead of Nvidia GPUs, CNBC reported on Oct. 12. The company unveiled its third-generation AI accelerator, Maia 300, and plans to have AI requests handled mainly by its own chips starting with that model, with mass production scheduled for 2027. Microsoft said it will install 96 Maia 300 chips per data-center rack and expects higher token throughput than Maia 200 and GPUs.
