Five skills software developers need in the age of AI coding

Andrew Ng, a Coursera co-founder and deep learning expert, said software engineering fundamentals remain essential in the era of agentic coding. He said developers must understand core principles to tell coding agents what to do and what to forgo, and to manage trade-offs such as latency, availability, reliability and cost. Citing his “AI Engineering Skills” research, Ng listed five needed capabilities: building full-stack applications, data management, system architecture design, making systems secure and stable, and scaling and operating in production.

The company is seeking around 50 billion yuan, with the round expected to close by late August, the South China Morning Post reported. The fundraising aligns with listing preparations, with sources saying it may file by year-end and target a 2027 debut. DeepSeek has raised API prices amid intensifying competition.

China\'s Even Realities valued at $1 billion after $150 million pre-Series B round

China\'s smart glasses company Even Realities Technology raised $150 million in a pre-Series B funding round joined by Tencent and Meituan, valuing it at $1 billion. The Shenzhen-based startup plans to use the funds to develop a next-generation smart glasses platform, strengthen AI integration, expand global operations and accelerate product innovation. Founder and CEO Will Wang previously worked at Apple from 2016 to 2018.
