Why big tech is abandoning open-weights models
Alibaba\'s Qwen team lost its technology chief and two senior researchers within 24 hours of releasing its latest model, fuelling perceptions that open-weights AI does not pay. Against that backdrop, Lightricks co-founder and CEO Zeev Farbman says he will accelerate an open-weights strategy. He argues Google and OpenAI are pursuing closed models to build software monopolies. He says closed APIs limit studios and create business risk, while Lightricks aims to monetise enterprise deployment and licensing.
