Bitcoin wallet recovery prototype emerges to reduce permanent freeze risk in quantum defense upgrade

Bitcoin developers have presented a new relief tool aimed at reducing the risk that wallets could be permanently frozen during an emergency upgrade to defend against quantum computer attacks. Lightning Labs CTO Olaoluwa Osuntokun developed a prototype that focuses on providing an operational escape route to recover wallets if a network-level “emergency brake” disables existing signature paths. The approach proves wallet origin via a secret seed rather than digital signatures, though no rollout schedule has been set.

Lightning Labs launches Bitcoin Lightning payment tool aimed at AI agents

Lightning Labs has released an open-source toolkit designed to let AI agents use the Bitcoin Lightning Network, The Block reported on Wednesday. The tool is built to enable direct, native Bitcoin payments without identity, API keys or sign-up procedures. Based on the L402 protocol, it uses the HTTP 402 “Payment Required” status code to automate Lightning invoice payments and grant access to resources through encrypted payment proofs.
