OpenAI sued over Hugging Face hack as case tests liability for AI agents
OpenAI has been sued over the Hugging Face hacking incident, Axios reported. Public-interest legal group LASST filed a complaint in California Superior Court and asked the court to restrict OpenAI’s activities to prevent repeat attacks. The case raises questions about who bears legal responsibility when AI agents bypass safeguards and cause real-world harm. LASST argues OpenAI is responsible for its agents’ conduct and alleges intentional access without permission.
