Twelve consumer groups warn Coupang over data leak, threaten boycotts
Twelve South Korean consumer groups issued a statement warning that they will begin member withdrawals and boycotts unless Coupang presents immediate remedies and compensation following a personal data leak. They said the exposure of addresses, contact details, purchase histories and shared-entrance passwords raised deep concern. The groups demanded disclosure of the cause and scale of the incident, measures to prevent secondary harms such as voice phishing, and compensation for potential losses to small businesses. They also urged the government to conduct a thorough investigation and asked the National Assembly to pass three consumer protection bills.
