Park Jang-hwan appointed second head of regenerative medicine technology development programme

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and Ministry of Health and Welfare have appointed Park Jang-hwan (박장환), an emeritus professor at Hanyang University, as the second head of the pan-ministerial Regenerative Medicine Technology Development Programme. The programme runs from 2021 to 2030 and will invest 595.5 billion won, including 542.3 billion won in government funds and 53.2 billion won from the private sector, to secure core and fundamental technologies in regenerative medicine.

Privacy watchdog fines Korea National Research Foundation over data leak affecting 120,000 members

South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission imposed an administrative fine and penalty on the Korea National Research Foundation for violating personal data protection rules. It said a hacker viewed personal information of about 120,000 JAMS members by exploiting a weakness in a password-recovery URL. The commission cited failure to detect and fix a long-standing vulnerability, inadequate breach notifications and weak overall protections, including a later case of name impersonation.
