South Korea science ministry to pursue superconductor technology development, aims for self-reliance by 2035
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said it will pursue a strategy, including global cooperation, to secure superconductor technology by 2035. It plans to strengthen R&D, build an industry-academia-research cooperation system, expand regional research infrastructure and work with leading global institutes. Plans include building a 16-tesla superconductor conductor test facility at Korea Institute of Energy Technology and launching joint research with CERN, while advancing high-temperature superconductor development.

President Lee reviews expanding alternative service for science and technology talent, revamping military system
President Lee Jae-myung said on Feb. 5 he is reviewing expanding alternative military service for male science and technology talent and overhauling the military system. Speaking at a dialogue event with future scientists, he said the military should shift from an infantry- and headcount-based model to one centered on equipment, weapons and trained experts. He also mentioned research units within the military and said the government is preparing policies to address overseas talent outflows.

DS Danseok signs deal with U.S. Nano Nuclear on micro modular reactors
DS Danseok said it signed a memorandum of understanding with Nasdaq-listed Nano Nuclear Energy to introduce micro modular reactors in South Korea and pursue strategic cooperation. The agreement aims to establish a mutual cooperation system for MMR technology development and commercialisation. The companies will work on business model discovery, technical reviews, licensing cooperation and supply-chain links. DS Danseok said it will execute the project under a “One factory One MMR” strategy.
