South Korea moves to tighten youth protection for AI, readying reviews and legal overhaul
South Korea is moving to strengthen protections for minors as concerns rise over harmful information exposure and excessive immersion in AI chatbots. The Korea Communications Media Commission is preparing a draft law tentatively titled the AI Service User Protection Act, while its review body plans to begin full reviews of AI chat services in November under existing laws and rules. The science ministry is supporting revisions to the AI Basic Act, and lawmakers have proposed bills to bolster youth protection duties for AI operators.
