Korea ETF market nears 466 trillion won as asset managers compete more fiercely, internal controls in focus
South Korea’s listed exchange-traded fund market is expanding rapidly, intensifying market-share competition among asset managers. Total net assets stood at 465.98 trillion won as of May 12, with 1,108 ETFs listed. Samsung Asset Management led with 39.64 percent, followed by Mirae Asset with 31.69 percent. Mid-tier firms are focusing on active and theme-based ETFs. Regulators are also reviewing some ETF advertisements for potential internal-control lapses.

Shinhan Investment Securities says minor accounts up 272 percent as ETF long-term investing spreads
Shinhan Investment Securities said on Tuesday that investing by minors often begins with mobile-based, non-face-to-face account openings and develops into long-term, diversified investing centred on exchange-traded funds. It said the number of minor accounts opened in the first quarter of 2026 rose 272 percent from a year earlier, with 58.4 percent opened non-face-to-face. Average balances were about 10 million won per account, and trading favoured large-cap stocks and index-tracking ETFs.

Shinhan Investment customers sell Nvidia, buy SK hynix in RIA accounts
Shinhan Investment Corp said on Tuesday that an analysis of trades by customers who opened its RIA accounts, launched on March 23, showed a clear shift of funds. Customers took profits in overseas AI and big tech shares and moved money into South Korean large-cap blue chips and index-tracking ETFs. Nvidia had the highest share of overseas stock sales, while SK hynix and Samsung Electronics led domestic purchases.
