Lawson to test stablecoin payments at convenience stores with JPYC from August

Japan\'s convenience store chain Lawson will introduce payments using yen-pegged stablecoin JPYC at stores from August. A pilot is set for early August at a Lawson store operated by telecoms company KDDI, using a smartphone wallet barcode scanned by a POS terminal. Lawson plans to check POS integration and payment time. KDDI has a capital and business tie-up with wallet firm HashPort, which supports the trial.

SpaceX considers launching consumer mobile service in U.S., report says

SpaceX is reportedly reviewing plans to launch its own mobile service for U.S. consumers. The company held executive-level talks with Charter Communications on a consumer mobile business, with a focus on expanding Starlink-based mobile services. The discussions reportedly looked beyond partnerships with carriers toward operating a consumer service under SpaceX\'s own brand. SpaceX already runs Starlink and provides a Direct to Cell service with T-Mobile.

Yeogi Eottae Company expands globally with acquisition of Japan travel platform

Yeogi Eottae Company has acquired Japan travel booking platform Relux. The company said on May 18 it signed a contract to buy all shares of Loco-Partners, a KDDI unit that operates Relux. Relux focuses on premium hotels, resorts and ryokan and has about 3.8 million members. Yeogi Eottae will run three platforms, link products across them and target inbound travel to Korea and demand for Japan travel, including third-country visitors to East Asia.
