Global anorexia and bulimia cases up 71 percent as experts warn on diet drugs
The number of people worldwide with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa rose 71 percent from 1990 to 2023, after an analysis of data from 204 countries and regions, a report said. A study published in JAMA Psychiatry estimated about 18.1 million people had the conditions in 2023, with 41.2 percent aged 10 to 24. Experts also raised concerns that GLP-1 weight-loss drugs could worsen symptoms for some patients.
