Rocket Lab to buy satellite communications company Iridium for $8 billion, challenge SpaceX
Rocket Lab has agreed to acquire satellite communications company Iridium Communications for $8 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported on June 29. The move aims to secure a satellite network and global spectrum assets to compete with SpaceX. Rocket Lab said it will combine its launch and satellite manufacturing capabilities with Iridium’s service reach and spectrum holdings, and develop next-generation satellites to replace Iridium’s current constellation.
