Alibaba cuts workforce 34 percent in 2025 amid AI push
Alibaba cut its workforce by 34 percent in 2025 as it accelerated its shift to AI, CNBC reported on Thursday. Its employee count stood at 128,197 at the end of last year, down 66,123 from a year earlier, CNBC said, attributing the decline to the sale of offline retail operations and a restructuring toward an AI-focused business model. Alibaba’s quarterly profit fell 67 percent, missing expectations, and its Hong Kong-listed shares dropped 6 percent.
