Google targets portal entryway, putting Naver AI search to the test
Google has expanded its AI-enabled browser, Gemini in Chrome, in South Korea, raising a key test for market leader Naver\'s AI response. The update adds in-browser tools such as webpage summaries, cross-tab comparisons, email drafting, image conversion and integrations with Gmail, Maps, Calendar and YouTube. Naver plans to launch an AI tab in the second quarter and aims to link search with its vertical services, including shopping, places and payments, while managing rising GPU-related infrastructure costs.

Daum revives real-time search terms, restores four-color logo, overhauls home screen
Daum has revived real-time search terms after 6 years, restored its four-color logo and fully revamped its home screen. The changes come as Upstage is pursuing an acquisition. Daum\'s search share is 2.6 percent by InternetTrend and 1.56 percent by StatCounter, ranking fourth behind Naver, Google and Microsoft Bing. AXZ opened a real-time trends beta on March 3 and added measures to curb manipulation.

Naver search share hits 63 percent, reclaims 60 percent level after 3 years
Naver held a dominant lead in South Korea’s search market in 2025 with an average share of 62.86 percent, up 4.72 percentage points from 2024 and back above 60 percent for the first time in three years, InternetTrend data showed. Google’s share fell to 29.55 percent. Bing ranked third at 3.12 percent and Daum fourth at 2.94 percent. Industry commentary linked Naver’s rebound to efforts such as its AI search service, AI Briefing.
