Korea science ministry pitches next-generation nuclear vision at IAEA, backs SMRs and offshore nuclear power
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT introduced plans at the International Atomic Energy Agency\'s general conference to develop next-generation nuclear technologies, including small modular reactors and offshore nuclear power, and to expand international cooperation. Trump bans foreign power-grid systems again, declares national emergency, targets Chinese equipment
U.S. President Donald Trump again barred the import, installation and use of foreign-made large-scale power systems used on the U.S. power grid. He declared a national emergency and signed an executive order blocking Americans and U.S. companies from buying, importing, transferring or installing systems judged a national security risk. The move covers hardware and software and gives the Energy Department key authority. The administration must draft implementing rules within 120 days.

MSIT speeds up SMR-powered ship development, expands international cooperation
South Korea will expand international cooperation in maritime nuclear power as it targets starting construction of a small modular reactor-powered ship by 2035. The Ministry of Science and ICT said First Vice Minister Ku Hyuk-chae will attend the launch ceremony of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s ATLAS initiative in Washington on Aug. 26-27 as South Korea’s chief representative. ATLAS will discuss safety, security, safeguards, regulation and standards needed to introduce maritime nuclear power.
