Axelera AI raises more than $250 million for edge AI chips
Dutch startup Axelera AI has raised more than $250 million in funding for AI chips used in edge devices, SiliconANGLE reported on Feb. 24. The round was led by Amsterdam-based venture capital firm Innovation Industries, with participation from BlackRock and the Samsung Catalyst Fund. Axelera AI’s flagship Metis chip performs 214 trillion operations per second while using 10 watts, and uses a digital in-memory computing architecture to reduce data movement.

Lee Eok-won calls KOSPI 5,000 a signal of easing Korea discount, vows to stamp out unfair trading
Financial Services Commission Chairman Lee Eok-won (이억원) said the KOSPI’s move above 5,000 points was an historic milestone showing a long-standing “Korea discount” is being resolved and the market has entered a new phase. Speaking at an event in Seoul, he said the breakthrough signalled rising trust and expectations for the economy and capital markets. He pledged to eradicate unfair trading, strengthen shareholder protections and boost innovation.

Korea Fintech Association urges review of digital asset exchange ownership dispersion rules
The Korea Fintech Industry Association called on financial authorities to reconsider proposed ownership dispersion rules for digital asset exchanges, warning the plan could undermine the domestic industry’s growth base and weaken innovation and global competitiveness. It said administratively dispersing ownership could reduce decision-making speed and accountability and could trigger legal disputes such as property-rights infringement and issues over retroactive legislation. The association proposed market-friendly governance measures such as promoting IPOs and stronger oversight.
