KAIST names mechanical engineering professor Bae Choong-sik as 18th president
KAIST has appointed mechanical engineering professor Bae Choong-sik (배충식) as its next president. The university’s board made the decision at an extraordinary meeting on June 29 at KAIST’s Kim Jaechul AI Graduate School campus in Yangjae-dong, Seoul. Bae has worked in eco-friendly energy and carbon-neutral power engineering and has held several senior roles at KAIST. His appointment is subject to required ministerial consent and approval.

Vice PM Bae holds talks in Belgium with EU on AI, science and technology cooperation
South Korea\'s Vice Prime Minister Bae Kyeong-hoon (배경훈) met a European Union executive commissioner in Brussels to discuss ways to expand cooperation in artificial intelligence and science and technology, the science ministry said. He accompanied President Lee Jae-myung on a state visit to Belgium and the EU. Bae also met Korean researchers at IMEC and discussed Horizon Europe participation, joint research in AI-driven innovation, advanced biotech and quantum technology, and wider researcher exchanges.

Generative AI floods web, 35 percent of websites show \'ChatGPT style\'
About 35 percent of websites published since ChatGPT emerged in 2022 may have been generated by AI or written with AI assistance, a study said. Researchers analysed sites published from August 2022 to May 2025 using the Internet Archive\'s Wayback Machine and an AI text detector. They found AI-related sites were 33 percent more similar in content and had positivity scores 107 percent higher than human-written sites.
