XRP surged as much as about 24 percent on Aug. 20, the biggest gain among the top 100 cryptocurrencies by market value. It climbed to about $1.26 and was up about 31 percent over seven days. XRP’s rise outpaced other major altcoins. With a market value of about $79.15 billion, it ranked fifth among cryptocurrencies, with about $6.34 billion in 24-hour trading volume.

A renewed debate has erupted over bitcoin adoption after BlackRock suggested investors could consider allocating 1 to 2 percent of a portfolio to bitcoin.
