Waymo taps DoorDash drivers to close open car doors
Waymo is using DoorDash delivery workers to close doors left open on its self-driving vehicles, TechCrunch reported on Feb. 13. The pilot program is under way in Atlanta, where nearby DoorDash drivers are alerted and paid $6.25 to close a door, plus an extra $5 after completing the job. Waymo and DoorDash described it as an effort to improve autonomous vehicle efficiency. Waymo also works with towing-service app Honk in Los Angeles, paying up to $24 for door-closing tasks, and plans to add automatic door-closing in the future.
