Seagate launches AI-focused HAMR storage platform Seagate Mozaic 4+

Seagate Technology on Tuesday introduced its next-generation Seagate Mozaic 4+ storage platform based on heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR). The company said Mozaic 4+ has obtained certification from two hyperscale cloud providers and has entered mass production. Seagate said the certification, which supports up to 44TB, means the platform has been deployed at production scale in hyperscale environments. It is pursuing a roadmap toward higher per-disk capacity.

Western Digital unveils roadmap to expand HDD capacity to 100TB

Western Digital on Tuesday unveiled a roadmap for hard disk drives with capacities of more than 100 terabytes and introduced performance and power-optimization technologies at Innovation Day 2026. The company said it has shifted to long-term customer partnerships based on multi-year contracts and more than doubled gross profit year on year. It said 40TB UltraSMR ePMR drives and HAMR drives are under validation with two hyperscale customers each, with mass production plans from the second half of this year and expanded HAMR output from 2027.
