Microsoft Fabric aims to be data platform for AI agents, targeting Snowflake and Databricks
Microsoft unveiled three new products at its Build 2026 conference to strengthen data infrastructure for AI agents. Fabric CTO Amir Netz said enterprise AI needs a “context layer” to operate reliably. Microsoft introduced Azure HorizonDB, a fully managed PostgreSQL-compatible database in public preview. It will add Nvidia GPU acceleration support to Fabric Data Warehouse in an early access preview in July 2026. Microsoft also launched Fabric IQ to define business concepts and boundaries for AI agents.

Apple, Microsoft AI strategies put to the test as AI cost surge debate grows
Apple and Microsoft face a key month as investors and developers watch whether they can shift perceptions of their AI momentum. Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference runs June 8 to 12 and is expected to highlight on-device AI backed by its chip design experience. Microsoft is expected to unveil more in-house models at its June 2 to 3 Build conference as it leans less on OpenAI. Companies are also voicing growing concern over rising AI costs.

Microsoft cancels most Claude Code licenses, shifts engineers to GitHub Copilot CLI
Microsoft is cancelling most internal Claude Code licenses and directing engineers to switch to GitHub Copilot CLI. Fortune reported the company opened Claude Code to thousands of developers, planners and designers six months ago, but changed course as usage scaled. The measure does not affect Microsoft’s plan to invest up to $5 billion in Anthropic or Anthropic’s agreement to buy $30 billion of Azure computing capacity.
