KakaoTalk Gift Giving targets self-purchases. Why?
KakaoTalk\'s Gift Giving service is expanding beyond birthdays and anniversaries into a shopping space for users themselves. Self-purchases still account for about 20 percent of total Gift Giving transaction value, but their growth is far outpacing overall TalkBiz commerce growth, which includes Gift Giving and Talk Deal. Kakao has rolled out promotions, new tabs and ranking features, and strengthened benefits during shopping events. The push could lift advertising and tie into membership and AI features, but also raises competitive pressure against major shopping platforms.

Kakao nears \'Talk Affiliate\' launch, shifts to participation-based ads
Kakao is preparing to launch \'Talk Affiliate\', a participation-based advertising service linking KakaoTalk short-form creators and Gift Giving transactions. After a trademark filing and a pilot test, Kakao has written into its ad policy that fees will be charged based on sales generated through the affiliate service, with commission rates to be announced. The move comes as display advertising has posted five straight quarters of declines and commerce growth has slowed.
