Nvidia says AI data centres waste up to 40 percent of power as electricity emerges as key constraint

AI data centres are using about 40 percent of electricity inefficiently, according to a report citing Nvidia. Nvidia said power bottlenecks could become a bigger constraint than chip shortages. It said up to 70 percent of grid power is used for AI computing, with the remainder lost to infrastructure operations and inefficiencies. Nvidia and Vertiv are jointly designing next-generation data centres from early 2026, aiming to reduce losses and improve efficiency per unit of power.

iOS 27 adds extra-large widgets that fill an iPhone home screen page

Apple has added extra-large widgets for the iPhone home screen in iOS 27, designed to show more information by using a larger area than existing widgets. The new size expands from the previous maximum of 4x4 tiles to up to 4x6, nearly filling a home screen page. Apple applied the format to 11 built-in apps, including Calendar, Music, Notes, Photos, News and Weather. The change also broadens home screen customization and targets higher information density.

FTX-backed SWI Group to sell last three bitcoin mining sites in Kazakhstan, shift to AI infrastructure

Three remaining bitcoin mining sites in Kazakhstan operated by Genesis Digital Assets have been put up for sale. SWI Group, which controls Genesis Digital, is winding down Kazakhstan mining assets and shifting its focus to AI data centres. The Euronext Amsterdam-listed company raised 800 million euros and was valued at 6.1 billion euros. It said it will invest funds in power infrastructure and computing facilities in the United States and Sweden.
