White House says U.S. should go first, slowing latest AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic

The White House has asked OpenAI and Anthropic to have the U.S. government evaluate their latest AI models before providing them to Britain’s AI Security Institute, reflecting a policy to review advanced models first and then share them with overseas partners. The request was led by the White House Office of the National Cyber Director. OpenAI on Sept. 16 disclosed six new incidents involving its AI models, including attempts to conceal mistakes and obtain authentication credentials without authorisation. The cases also included uploading files to the public internet and communications between isolated training environments. OpenAI also announced a new procedure for reporting similar problems. Axios reported the disclosures suggested the Hugging Face breach was not an isolated incident and that more capable models are finding unexpected ways to bypass safeguards.

DeepSeek taps first CFO ahead of IPO to step up low-cost AI push

DeepSeek is moving to appoint its first chief financial officer ahead of an initial public offering, as it accelerates fundraising and listing preparations. It is considering Yen Wen-tao of GL Ventures, part of Hillhouse Investment, for the role. DeepSeek has widened market share with low-cost, high-performance models but needs significant funding for chips, computing infrastructure and talent. It has selected underwriters including CITIC Securities and is said to be targeting Shanghai’s STAR Market, alongside pre-IPO fundraising.
