Science ministry holds roundtable on basic plan to foster science and technology talent
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT held a regional on-site roundtable at Yonsei University on May 13 on its fifth basic plan to foster and support science and technology talent for 2026 to 2030. The plan is a top-level statutory programme under a special law to support science and engineering. Students, postdoctoral researchers, early-career researchers and teachers attended and shared concerns across the talent pipeline.

Vice minister Ku holds talks in Daejeon to gather views on science and technology talent policy
Ku Hyeok-chae (구혁채), first vice minister at South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT, chaired a regional meeting in the Chungcheong area on April 16 at Chungnam National University in Daejeon to gather views for the fifth basic plan on fostering and supporting science and technology talent for 2026 to 2030. Participants discussed burdens from administrative work, limits on challenging long-term research, career instability, lack of research infrastructure and better treatment.

MSIT, education ministry build \'one team\' system to step up AI talent training
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Education Ministry will cooperate as a \"one team\" across the full education cycle to train talent for the AI era. They plan to form a task force led jointly by the vice ministers and finalise a five-year basic plan by June. The ministries agreed to expand AI platforms, guidelines and teacher training in schools, strengthen university cooperation and regional talent systems, and link policies to promote shared use of research facilities and equipment.
