Ethereum Foundation sets Dec 2029 target for quantum resistance across mainnet
The Ethereum Foundation has laid out a roadmap to make the entire Ethereum mainnet quantum-resistant by December 2029. The target is to convert all three layers of Ethereum L1 — execution, consensus and data — to a quantum-resistant structure. The timeline is set on the assumption that a quantum-computing “Q-day” could arrive as early as 2030. Ethereum aims to implement its next major upgrade, Glamssterdam, in December and then deliver full quantum resistance through five further upgrades.

Ethereum draws attention for EIP-8141 that allows gas fees without ETH
A new transaction structure has been proposed for Ethereum that would let users pay transaction fees without holding ETH, or allow applications to cover gas fees on their behalf. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said development of the Ethereum Improvement Proposal EIP-8141 has made significant progress. The proposal splits transactions into up to 64 frames, enables separation of signing and fee-paying accounts, and aims to expand flexibility while retaining existing wallet structures.

Ethereum \'Glamsterdam\' delayed as follow-up upgrade recalibrated
Ethereum\'s next major network upgrade, Glamsterdam, has been pushed back to the fourth quarter of 2026. Developers have launched a new public testnet, Plåtåberget, for the upgrade and have begun narrowing the scope of the follow-up upgrade, Hegotá, with a 2027 launch in mind. The timeline shift comes after earlier expectations for Glamsterdam in the first half of 2026 and Hegotá in the second half.
