Central Radio Management Office cancels Onesetellink registration over failure to block voice phishing
The Central Radio Management Office under South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT has cancelled the registration of telecom operator Onesetellink for failing to carry out corrective orders aimed at blocking voice phishing that impersonates public institutions. The office said Onesetellink did not implement caller ID spoofing prevention measures without justifiable grounds by the March 6 deadline. It also ordered user protection steps and said the company must notify subscribers promptly of service termination.

Privacy watchdog recommends improving face authentication for mobile phone activation
South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission recommended that the Ministry of Science and ICT improve its face authentication scheme used when activating mobile phone service. The commission said it found insufficient review of privacy safeguards for handling biometric facial data, which is treated as sensitive information under the privacy law. KOMC says illegal spam senders, businesses face fines of up to 6 percent of sales
South Korea\'s Korea Office of Media and Communications (KOMC) said on March 24 that a partial amendment to the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection cleared a cabinet meeting. The bill would allow fines of up to 6 percent of related sales for illegal spam senders and businesses that neglect prevention duties. It would also enable confiscation or recovery of illicit gains and require bulk-text advertising to be outsourced to certified transmitters.
