Cryptocurrencies are emerging as a new variable in divorce lawsuits in Russia, where a high divorce rate is adding pressure to asset division, the report said. Unlike tangible assets such as cars and real estate, digital assets can be difficult to prove and to attribute to an owner. Lawyers say the challenge grows when only one spouse manages the crypto or when assets sit on foreign exchanges that have no duty to provide information to Russian courts.
