KT contract penalty waiver rocks number porting market as marketing rivalry heats up
KT\'s waiver of contract cancellation fees following an unauthorised small-payment incident has jolted South Korea\'s telecom market, with 79,055 customers leaving from Dec. 31 to Jan. 5. A total of 26,394 moved on Jan. 5 alone. SK Telecom received 51,728 of those switchers. Rival operators rolled out refund and discount promotions through Jan. 13, while systems glitches were reported and regulators signalled scrutiny of exaggerated marketing claims.
