Diablo 5 draws on Diablo 2 DNA as Blizzard cites key reference
Blizzard is actively reflecting design experience from Diablo 2: Resurrected, released in 2021, in the development of Diablo 5. The strategy is to apply elements that have been revalidated in today’s player environment rather than simply reviving strengths from the original released more than 20 years ago. Diablo 5 lead game director Joe Shely said the company is using Resurrected as a modern reference. Blizzard highlighted the item system as a key source of inspiration.
