Japan\'s Gumi launches crypto management fund with SBI to invest in bitcoin and altcoins
Japanese game developer Gumi will launch a 3 billion yen cryptocurrency investment fund with SBI Financial Services. The fund will invest in bitcoin and major altcoins, while seeking returns through staking and using hedging and rebalancing strategies to manage risk. Gumi said the fund aims to connect Japanese corporate capital with crypto markets and to build a track record ahead of possible future approval of crypto exchange-traded funds in Japan.

Lawson to test stablecoin payments at convenience stores with JPYC from August
Japan\'s convenience store chain Lawson will introduce payments using yen-pegged stablecoin JPYC at stores from August. A pilot is set for early August at a Lawson store operated by telecoms company KDDI, using a smartphone wallet barcode scanned by a POS terminal. Lawson plans to check POS integration and payment time. KDDI has a capital and business tie-up with wallet firm HashPort, which supports the trial.

Japan digital securities to open to foreign investors as SBI, Daiwa eye 2027 trading
SBI Securities and Daiwa Securities are building a trading framework to allow overseas investors to invest in Japanese digital securities, with a possible launch as early as 2027. The initiative aims to expand a market largely limited to domestic residents. The firms have validated a direct trading base with Singapore with the fintech firm Boostry. They are also reviewing use of Circle’s dollar-backed stablecoin for settlement and considering a yen-based stablecoin later.
