NIPA hosts XTC Korea 2026; Omelette takes top prize
South Korea\'s National IT Industry Promotion Agency held the Extreme Tech Challenge Korea 2026 competition online on Aug. 12 in cooperation with Extreme Tech Challenge and the Global Digital Innovation Network. The event aims to support promising domestic AI startups in expanding overseas and attracting investment, focusing on companies contributing to the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals. Omelette won first place and the XTC Applied AI Excellence Award.

Woori Bank to pursue easy payment infrastructure for foreign visitors with Crosshub
Woori Bank plans to develop a foreigner-only digital wallet to improve payment convenience for foreign visitors to South Korea. The bank signed a memorandum of understanding with fintech startup Crosshub on June 10 to jointly develop services aimed at easing payments for visiting foreigners. The partners aim to launch the wallet in the second half. They also plan a prepaid card charged in the user’s home currency and to test a stablecoin-based payment environment.

MSIT selects 15 ICT future unicorns to support overseas expansion and funding
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT selected 15 companies for this year\'s Global ICT Future Unicorn Development Programme to support the global growth of promising AI and digital innovation firms. The ministry held a certificate presentation ceremony in Seoul on Tuesday. The programme, now in its seventh year, provides scale-up support and works with related agencies including NIPA, KODIT, the Korea Exchange and Seoul Guarantee Insurance.
