Cognex to buy Intel spinoff RealSense for $600 million, expand into robotics
Cognex will acquire RealSense, a robotics and computer vision startup spun off from Intel, in a deal valued at $600 million. Cognex plans to use the acquisition to step up its push into the robotics market beyond its core machine vision business. Cognex sells optical character recognition technology, sensor cameras for detecting defects on factory lines, and systems that guide robotic arms and sorting robots. RealSense’s main products include depth cameras and 3D sensing technologies.

Nvidia unveils Jetson Orin Nano 2 robotics computer, boosting edge AI adoption
Nvidia on Aug. 25 unveiled the Jetson Orin Nano 2, a low-cost edge AI computer for robotics. The company said it is designed to run AI and frontier-class models inside robots and drones. Performance doubles from the prior generation, with 8 gigabytes of memory and an 8-core CPU, while power consumption falls 40 percent in 15-watt mode. Nvidia said several companies are working to apply it to smart robotics.

Physical AI firm Carbonsix raises $40 million in Series A funding
Carbonsix, a physical AI company targeting manufacturers, said on Wednesday it raised $40 million (60 billion won) in a Series A round from Korean and U.S. venture capital firms including DSC Investment, LB Investment, IMM, KDB, SV Investment, Cortentia and A Squared. The company develops robot AI products and automation technology that can be deployed directly at manufacturing sites. It said its approach builds a data flywheel through tool use, data accumulation and model improvement.
