Leaving VMware could mean more complex and costlier infrastructure
Some companies are considering breaking with VMware after Broadcom shifted licensing to a subscription model, raising costs, but switching core software is not easy and could bring side effects. Gartner research vice president Paul Delory warned companies that leave may end up with more complex and less efficient infrastructure. He said there is no technical reason to choose rival hypervisors and no one-to-one replacement for VMware Cloud Foundation.

Moving to IBM mainframes could cost less than VMware licences
A Gartner vice president and analyst said some VMware users may find it cheaper to move to IBM mainframes after Broadcom introduced a subscription-focused licensing policy. He cited cases where shifting from VMware to IBM made business sense when Broadcom requires customers to buy the full Cloud Foundation private cloud stack. He said mainframes offer built-in data synchronisation and high availability and can handle AI workloads.

Dell Technologies adds Nutanix support on Dell Private Cloud
Dell Technologies said on Feb. 23 it will officially support Nutanix AHV on Dell Private Cloud. It said enterprises and institutions can pair Nutanix AHV with Dell external storage to expand servers and storage independently, maintain familiar management tools and automated lifecycle management, and protect existing investments in multi-hypervisor environments. The company said Dell Private Cloud has expanded support beyond VMware and Red Hat OpenShift to include Nutanix.
