Google, OpenAI race to ultrafast AI with Gemini 3.7 Flash and GPT-5.6 Sol Ultrafast
Google and OpenAI unveiled ultrafast AI services targeting coding and AI agent work, highlighting a shift in competition toward response speed. Google launched the low-cost Gemini 3.7 Flash in more than 160 countries, with support for up to 1 million input tokens and 64,000 output tokens and multimodal processing. OpenAI introduced GPT-5.6 Sol Ultrafast, a faster processing tier for GPT-5.6 Sol using Cerebras chips, initially limited to some API customers.

Neocloud market shifts as SoftBank and Meta enter
The neocloud market for AI-focused cloud computing is shifting as major players enter. SoftBank Group and its telecom unit SoftBank plan to start a neocloud business next fiscal year, renting AI computing resources to U.S. companies. Meta is also stepping up plans to use its data centres for cloud services. Nvidia is expanding support for smaller cloud firms that lease its GPUs. Big cloud companies are also building forward deployed engineer teams for enterprise AI.

Anthropic unveils Claude Sonnet 5, lowers price for Opus 4.8-level performance
Anthropic on Monday unveiled its mid-range model Claude Sonnet 5. The company said Sonnet 5 offers performance close to Opus 4.8 while being cheaper to use, and it is available as the default model for Claude Free and Pro plans and across all subscription tiers. Pricing through Aug. 31 is $2 per 1 million input tokens and $10 per 1 million output tokens.
