MSIT to build four university hubs to train master\'s and PhD AI startup talent
South Korea will foster master\'s and PhD-level talent to connect AI technology to startup creation, using four universities as regional hubs. The Ministry of Science and ICT said it held a plaque presentation and meeting for four lead universities selected for its AI and digital-based startup talent programme. The initiative, launched this year, aims to train advanced entrepreneur-type talent that identifies market and social problems and solves them with AI, leading to actual startups.

PIPC discusses ways to expand use of regional AI data
South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission visited Gwangju Techno Park and the Artificial Intelligence Industry Convergence Project Group on Wednesday and held a meeting with local companies, institutions and researchers in AI medical and healthcare fields in the Jeonnam-Gwangju region. Participants proposed simplifying procedures for combining and processing pseudonymised data, establishing a new support centre and expanding consulting for local organisations. Chairperson Song Kyung-hee said the commission would support innovation while securing public trust in privacy protection.

Ko Young-cheol elected chairman of Korea Credit Union Federation, pledges stronger soundness and internal controls
Ko Young-cheol, chairman of the Gwangju Culture Credit Union, was elected the 34th chairman of the Korea Credit Union Federation on Jan. 7. He secured 301 votes, or 38.4 percent, out of 784 cast by credit union chairmen nationwide. Ko, a Chosun University accounting graduate, has served as a federation director since 2022. He pledged to restore soundness, strengthen internal controls and develop future growth drivers, and will take office in March.
