Korea media-communications watchdog steps up tracking of \'Newtoki,\' tightens CDN blocking, deletes Telegram channels
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Review Committee said it will strengthen international cooperation with Telegram and step up direct blocking of content delivery network (CDN) operators to curb the spread of pirate webtoon sites such as \'Newtoki\' and related copycat sites. The committee said it issued correction requests for 7,342 cases of illegal copyright-infringing information over about three months, including 2,200 alternative sites. It also plans to introduce electronic reviews in the second half to speed up screening and blocking.

MSIT and Broadcast Media Commission launch AI and media policy council
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Broadcast Media Communications Commission will jointly respond on artificial intelligence, media and digital regulation, aiming to reduce policy gaps as industry boundaries blur. The two agencies launched a policy council in Seoul on Tuesday. Cooperation will cover AI, media and OTT services, and digital regulation and user protection. They also plan to share parts of broadcast video AI training datasets via MSIT\'s AI Hub for research and education.

First board of broadcast media communications review committee completes member lineup, chair to be chosen March 12
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Review Committee has completed its nine-member lineup, it said on Tuesday, appointing Kim Woo-seok, a former member of the Korea Communications Standards Commission, on the National Assembly speaker\'s recommendation. The committee consists of three members designated by the president, three recommended by the speaker after consultations, and three recommended by a relevant parliamentary standing committee. Members serve a three-year term from March 11, 2026 to March 10, 2029.
