Orion adds outside directors with customs and tax backgrounds amid strong overseas sales

Orion Group will strengthen its lineup of former officials as outside directors at annual shareholder meetings on March 26. Alongside existing appointees with backgrounds in the food safety regulator and prosecution, it will newly appoint former officials from the Korea Customs Service and the National Tax Service. With overseas business rising to 60 percent of total sales, the move is seen as aimed at strengthening its ability to respond to tax matters.

Public system penetration test finds resident ID numbers of tens of millions could be stolen

South Korea’s Board of Audit and Inspection released findings on Tuesday showing security vulnerabilities in government public systems holding large amounts of personal data. It conducted a mock hacking test on seven systems under the Personal Information Protection Commission and found personal data theft was possible in all of them. The audit also cited shortcomings in measures against external hacking and called for improvements in response steps and data protection.
