AMD, Intel integrate x86 AI software to counter Arm push

AMD and Intel will work together to make AI development on x86 CPUs easier, HotHardware reported. The two companies plan to integrate their PyTorch optimisation technologies into the open-source oneDNN library. The move is expected to let developers use the same software on processors from both companies and reduce the need to optimise AI workloads separately for each CPU. The cooperation is seen as a response to Arm-based competitors.

China\'s three big tech firms order more than 3 million Nvidia chips as supply falls short of demand

China’s ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent have reportedly ordered more than 3 million of Nvidia’s new RTX PRO 5500 workstation graphics cards, with the total exceeding $35 billion at list prices. Bloomberg reported the purchases reflect demand for export-compliant alternatives amid U.S. controls. Sources said Nvidia may not be able to fulfill orders because demand exceeds production plans, with partners potentially receiving only a small share of requested volumes.

Dell unveils two rugged laptops for industrial sites rated IP66 and 1.8-metre drop

Dell Technologies on Oct. 19 introduced two new rugged laptops for industrial and public safety sites, the Dell Pro Rugged 13 Extreme and Dell Pro Rugged 14, and said both are already on sale this month. Both use Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors with up to 50 TOPS NPU performance. The 13-inch full-rugged model is rated IP66 and tested for 1.8-metre drops, while the 14-inch semi-rugged model is rated IP53 and tested for 0.91-metre drops.
