TD Cowen says U.S. CFTC crypto trading rules likely delayed until early 2028

New U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission rules on cryptocurrency trading may not be proposed until late in the first quarter or early in the second quarter of 2027, with implementation of final rules likely slipping into early 2028, TD Cowen said. The outlook reflects legislative gridlock and a lengthy rulemaking process. TD Cowen also flagged potential tougher platform requirements and the risk of legal challenges extending beyond 2028.

New York, Wyoming streamline reviews of crypto firms, step up regulatory cooperation

Financial regulators in the U.S. states of New York and Wyoming have agreed to cooperate more closely in overseeing cryptocurrency companies. The New York State Department of Financial Services and the Wyoming Division of Banking signed a memorandum of understanding covering licensing, examinations and enforcement. The deal includes sharing review materials and past examination data, coordinating inspection schedules and pursuing joint examinations. Some firms may qualify for an expedited review track, with a target decision within 6 months.

Uphold nears launch of Earn on XRP yield service targeting 1.62 billion XRP

U.S. cryptocurrency exchange Uphold is nearing the launch of a yield service for XRP holders called Earn on XRP, blockchain outlet U.Today reported on Thursday. Chief Product Officer Paul Underwood said development is in its final stage and details will be released within weeks. Because the XRP Ledger does not support native staking, Uphold is considering DeFi lending protocols or partner networks. Underwood also said the company is pursuing a New York BitLicense.
