ESMA adds 14 CASPs to MiCA register, slowing pace of licence growth
The European Securities and Markets Authority added 14 crypto asset service providers to the MiCA register, bringing the total number of registered firms to 294. Cointelegraph reported the update was the second to the register since the end of MiCA’s transition period. The previous update on July 3 added 37 CASPs. Cointelegraph said the pace of licence expansion appears to be slowing after an initial surge.

Digital euro to use European standards instead of Visa, Mastercard
The European Central Bank will adopt three European open payment standards for the digital euro infrastructure to reduce reliance on Visa and Mastercard in the euro zone, BeInCrypto reported on April 26. The ECB signed agreements with the European Cards Payment Cooperation, the Nexo Standards and the Berlin Group. The standards cover contactless payments, merchant and ATM transactions, and account-based transfers. Separately, major European banks are expanding moves to embed cryptocurrency trading into existing regulated platforms.

Six major Swiss banks test Swiss franc stablecoin
Six major Swiss banks are testing a stablecoin pegged to the Swiss franc with Swiss Stablecoin AG, CoinDesk reported. UBS, PostFinance, Sygnum, Raiffeisen, Zurich Cantonal Bank and BCV set up a sandbox allowing banks and institutions to trial real transactions in a controlled environment through 2026. The project limits user numbers and volumes to manage risk and focuses on payment process testing and programmable money. Switzerland does not yet have a widely used regulated CHF stablecoin.
