Meta delays next-generation AI \'Avocado\' launch until after May due to performance issues
Meta has delayed the launch of its next-generation AI model, Avocado, from this month until after May, the New York Times reported. The delay follows internal performance tests that showed the model trailing leading offerings from Google, OpenAI and Anthropic. The report said Avocado fell short of the latest rival models in reasoning, coding and writing evaluations. Meta executives are also discussing a temporary licensing option for Google’s Gemini for its AI products, but no final decision has been made.

Meta to double infrastructure investment this year, unveil next-generation AI model \'Avocado\' in first half
Meta shares are rising after the company reported fourth-quarter results that beat market forecasts. Earnings per share came in at $8.88 and revenue at $59.89 billion, up 24 percent from a year earlier. Meta guided first-quarter revenue at $53.5 billion to $56.5 billion. It projected 2026 total costs of up to $169 billion and capital spending of up to $135 billion, nearly double 2025. Meta plans to unveil its next AI model, \'Avocado\', in the first half.
