U.S. War Department pushes four-star autonomous warfare command centered on drones and AI
The U.S. War Department is seeking to establish a four-star combatant command dedicated to autonomous weapon systems such as drones, AI and robots. The plan would add a 12th U.S. combatant command if launched as planned. Under a proposal called Project Agincourt, the Autonomous Warfare Command would have personnel, budget and weapons acquisition authority to integrate unmanned and autonomous forces across the services. A target launch date is Oct. 1, 2027, though legislation is required.
