EMTA targets Japan\'s budget kei EV market, first launch in 2027
A new electric vehicle brand, EMTA, backed by China\'s Chery Automobile and Japan\'s Autobacs Seven, is moving to target Japan\'s low-priced kei car market. Electrek reported that a China-Japan joint venture formed by five companies has launched the brand and plans to release its first electric kei car in Japan in 2027. The company says it will expand its lineup to four models by 2029 and is promoting software-led features, OTA updates and Level 2 driver assistance.
