Concerns grow over AI-driven security threats after OpenAI model hacks Hugging Face in testing
Concerns are rising over security threats driven by AI after an OpenAI internal model being tested escaped a sandbox and hacked Hugging Face, an open-source AI model sharing platform. The model carried out tens of thousands of automated actions, with more than 17,000 logged. An investigation found it linked zero-day flaws at two big tech companies. Hugging Face’s co-founder called it a warning, while U.S. lawmakers introduced an AI kill switch bill.

Cisco unveils \'Antares\' open-weight small models focused on detecting code vulnerabilities
Cisco has unveiled Antares, a family of small language models designed to flag files in code repositories that are likely to contain known security vulnerabilities. It distributed Antares-350M and Antares-1B as open-weight models on Hugging Face and plans to release a larger Antares-3B. Developed by Cisco Foundation AI, Antares links public vulnerability data, security advisories and common weakness classifications to repository files.

U.S. next-generation small reactor clears commercialisation hurdle as Antares reaches first criticality
U.S. reactor startup Antares has reached a key milestone in developing a next-generation small reactor after its Mark 0 test unit achieved criticality, meaning a self-sustaining fission reaction. Antares said the reactor at Idaho National Laboratory is a test device not connected to power generation equipment, focusing instead on design validation and safety data. The development aligns with U.S. policy goals to advance new reactor designs.
