U.S. Air Force weighs option of uncrewed aerial refuellers
The U.S. Air Force is considering making its next-generation aerial refuelling aircraft uncrewed, as the Navy’s uncrewed tanker programme accelerates. Air Mobility Command chief Daniel Tulley said future refuelling platforms may not need to be crewed and must be networked and able to defend themselves. The Air Force is fielding Boeing’s KC-46 but cut new tanker review funds in its 2027 budget request while seeking money for an “advanced refuelling system”.
